JAIPUR, JULY 9. The Rajasthan Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister, Kalulal Gujjar, has announced that the State Government would make efforts for extension of the District Poverty Initiative Project (DPIP) to all the districts following the allocation of Rs. 200 crores to the project during the current financial year. The DPIP has been implemented in seven districts of Rajasthan with the financial assistance provided by the World Bank. Mr. Gujjar, while addressing a function in Chhaprel village in Bhilwara district early this week, pointed out that only Rs. 135 crores of the sanctioned amount of Rs. 700 crores for the DPIP had been utilised during the last three years. "We will make all efforts to provide more resources to the rural populace for self-employment under the project. The financial assistance is already provided to the groups of beneficiaries in the form of 90 per cent subsidy for self-employment,'' he said while laying emphasis on imparting vocational training under DPIP. Mr. Gujjar said he had recently made a request to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, for approving an additional allocation of Rs. 2,000 crores to Rajasthan for finding permanent solution to the problems of fluoride-affected and saline drinking water. Several works had been launched for soil conservation and water harvesting in the rural areas, he added. The Minister called upon the people to help extend the benefits of various development schemes to fellow citizens. He said the State Government was committed to expanding the infrastructure of roads, power, water and medical and health facilities in the rural areas.
