FDI hike will lower phone tariff: Maran
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
JULY 9
. The Communication and Information Technology Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, said today that the increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) limit in the telecom sector from 49 per cent to 74 per cent would lead to infusion of more funds.
Mr. Maran, who was talking to newspersons, said: "We can expect more funds to come in for infrastructure development in telecom industry,'' that would facilitate increased competition and lower tariff.
Asked about stagnation in the Internet growth, he said several initiatives were being planned to increase IT penetration.
Besides, companies had invested in broadband infrastructure and the results would come. "I can see that the same kind of revolution that took place in the mobile sector is going to take place in the broadband sector,'' he said.
