HYDERABAD, JULY 9. Attempts to divide people with talks of separate Telangana and Rayalaseema were decried by two leaders of the Marxist Communist Party of India (MCPI) -- M. Omkar and B.N. Reddy -- and leaders of the Akhilendra Ikya Samithi (AIS) in separate statements issued here on Friday. In a joint statement, Mr. Omkar and Mr. Reddy urged politicians not to create problems among Telugus by stating that separate Telangana was possible in six months and that the Rayalaseema region would also get separated. Such statements were confusing people who, they said, were interested only in development of the State. They suggested that Telangana should be developed under a special package while remaining a part of the unified State. The leaders called upon political parties to act with responsibility, refrain from causing discord among the people and work for development of Telugus. N. Mahesh Anand, president, AIS, accused politicians of talking about separate Telangana, Rayalaseema and Uttara Andhra with intent of making people scapegoats for serving their interests.
