70 ill due to gastroenteritis

ELURU, JULY 9. Seventy persons fell sick with symptoms of gastroenteritis in the district headquarters on Friday.

The Eluru Municipal Council set up a makeshift health camp at Kothapet to deal with the situation. The Municipal Health Officer, Arjuna Rao, said 60 patients were treated for diarrhoea and vomiting at the health camp and 40 of them were administered intravenous fluids as a precautionary step to prevent dehydrationTen patients suffering from suspected gastroenteritis and other ailments, caused by contaminated water, were admitted as in-patients in the district Government hospital taking the total figure of such cases to 50, according to the hospital Superintendent, R.V.S. Prasada Rao.
