Rajya Sabha flats get piped gas

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JULY 9. The recently installed reticulated LPG cooking gas supply system at the Swarna Jayanti Sadan multi-storey complex on Bishambar Das Marg here for Rajya Sabha members was inaugurated today. The new system will ensure continuous supply of LPG in the multi-storey complex.

"This is a very convenient and cost-effective system. We are happy the Rajya Sabha has taken the lead in introducing this system and we hope that more projects on similar lines would also be installed in the other residential areas for MPs," said the Chairman of the House Committee of Rajya Sabha, Ram Nath Kovind. "We want to provide modern facilities for our members and since this is a more convenient system, it will give them more stamina and energy to work for the people," he added.

Twenty-eight flats have been covered under the scheme undertaken by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited. The advantages of the scheme include LPG supplied to individual households through pipelines from a centralised cylinder bank of bulk installation. Through the multiple pressure regulation stages, LPG would reach users at low pressure to make it safer. Also, since the cylinder is not stored in the house, it is safer. It is also cost effective as there is no need for a security amount and payment has to be made on the basis of actual consumption of gas as recorded in the installed gas metes. To ensure safety, officers of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Central Public Works Department and Delhi Fire Service have been involved in the discussions.

"We have installed a bank of 20 cylinders and that would ensure uninterrupted supply for two months. A set of 10 would last a month and then automatically switch to the next set. Within that time, we would replace the earlier set of cylinders. The advantage here is that while otherwise a cylinder is stored in the kitchen, here the system is located outside the house. A cylinder has a pressure of about 5-6 kg but the supply is controlled through a regulator. In this system, a regulated supply of LPG enters the house," explained senior regional manager of HPCL, P.K. Uppal.
