NEW DELHI, JULY 9. Setting the tone for reforms in the Delhi Transport Corporation, all managers and depot managers have been asked to relieve their drivers and drive their own vehicles or commute from home to office in a DTC bus. This move is expected to make 100 extra drivers available to DTC for deployment on various buses and routes. The new Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and the Secretary (Transport), Rajiv Talwar, has also ordered removal of CNG buses from the inter-State routes and deploy them on the inter-city routes. This step alone will ensure deployment of additional 250 CNG buses on the local routes that had been plying to destinations in the neighbouring States. Mr. Talwar said under the new orders, all managers and depot managers have been directed to either drive their officials vehicles to work place and back home or travel by DTC buses. This would relieve around 100 drivers from such duties and these can be deployed on the 250 CNG buses. Mr. Talwar said the DTC managers have also been told to travel in DTC buses to get a first knowledge of the problems faced by the commuters. The behaviour of the DTC staff in the buses would also then stand monitored ensuring immediate corrective measures wherever necessary.
