Four die in accidents

BANGALORE, JULY 9. Y.S. Narayana (23) of Lottegollahalli, who was injured when a lorry hit his scooter near Nagashettihalli around 8 p.m. on Thursday, died when he was being taken to hospital, the police said. The R.T. Nagar traffic police have seized the lorry and are on the lookout for the driver.

A woman aged around 70 was run over by a vehicle near the Kengeri check-post on Thursday night, the police said. She has not been identified. The Kengeri police have begun a search for the driver and the vehicle.

Two hotel employees were killed on the spot when a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus hit their motorcycle near Sahakaranagar Cross on Bellary Road at about 6 a.m. on Thursday.

The victims were identified as Srinivasa Raju (34) of Devasandra and Mohan (20) of Nagashettyhalli. The police said Raju and Mohan were on their way to the hotel when the accident took place. The Yelahanka Police have registered a case. A search is on for the bus driver.

Man robbed: A four-member gang waylaid an interior decorator from Chennai and robbed him of Rs. 20,000 in cash and a mobile phone in the Madivala police station limits on Wednesday night.

Liquor seized: The Byatarayanapura police on June 6 raided a hotel in Shammanna Garden and arrested two persons on charges of illegally brewing, bottling and selling liquor in the names of popular brands. The police seized liquor and equipment worth Rs. 2 lakh. The names of those arrested were given as Muneer Khan (26) and Zameer Khan (26) of Kallahalli in Anekal taluk.

Three women arrested: The City Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Thursday arrested a 30-year-old woman who was allegedly running a brothel from a beauty parlour at Gayathrinagar in the Subramanyanagar police station limits. The police arrested two other women on charges of immoral trafficking. They seized from them Rs. 1,000 in cash and a mobile phone.

Lottery agency raided: The CCB officials on Thursday raided a lottery agency at Kamakshipalya and arrested three persons who were allegedly conducting "matka" gambling. The police seized from them Rs. 6,000 in cash, a colour television set, and a mobile phone.

Chains snatched: Two men riding a motorcycle snatched gold chains from two women in J.P. Nagar and Jayanagar police station limits on Wednesday.

The police said the two men snatched a chain worth Rs. 30,000 from Poornima near Nalanda School in the Ragigudda area at about 4.30 p.m.

Half an hour later, they snatched a chain worth Rs. 10,000 from Uma Shenoy in 8th Block, Jayanagar, the police said. The police have registered cases.

Suicide: Ranganath (35), owner of a printing press, reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his house at Nagendra Block on Wednesday. The Girinagar police have registered a case.

In another incident, Puttaswamy (45) of Mysore committed suicide by hanging himself in a hotel room in the Upparpet police station limits the same day.

He checked into the room on Tuesday, the police said.
