HYDERABAD, JULY 11. The Andhra Pradesh Democratic Teachers' Federation has demanded 20 per cent interim relief for teachers and Government employees in view of the likely delay in finalisation of the Pay Revision Commission. The State executive of the federation, which met here on Sunday, adopted a resolution listing the demand among others. It asked the Government to fill 40,000 vacant posts in schools across the State and to construct own buildings for educational institutions with provision of basic infrastructure and books. According to a statement issued by Mr. K. Laxma Reddy, president, and M. Gangadhar, general secretary, the meeting opposed the Government's proposal to open English medium schools keeping in view the gloomy scenario of many institutions lacking even basic facilities. It felt that education should be imparted only in mother tongue going by the views expressed by educationists and reformers. The executive also resolved to ask the Government to file a special writ petition in the Supreme Court on the implementation of common service rules for teachers, to oppose transfers which inconvenience teachers and to follow system of counselling while enforcing them. It sought appointment of a regular commissioner/director in the School Education Directorate, payment of DA arrears to pensioners and regularisation of services of vocational teachers.
