ANANTAPUR, JULY 11. The general body of the Zilla Parishad, which met here on Sunday in spite of the Chairperson, J. Suryanarayana's last-minute decision to skip the meeting, unanimously resolved to put on hold all the works sanctioned and stop transfers of employees effected recently and also order for a probe into the alleged financial irregularities committed by the Chairperson. Though it was Mr. Suryanarayana, who had decided to convene the meeting, he skipped it in the wake of his own party's (TDP) ZPTC members deciding to move a no-confidence motion against him. After getting a clarification from the Chief Executive Officer, Chalapati Rao, that members could move a no-confidence motion against the Chairperson even in his absence, the ZPTC members of the TDP first decided to move the motion, but later dropped it for the next meeting. Launching a diatribe against the Chairperson, the TDP member, K.C. Peddanna, alleged that Mr. Suryanarayana had acted like a dictator for the past three years without giving even minimum respect to members. He charged that the Chairperson had not sanctioned any work without taking commission or percentage. He read out the details of funds sanctioned for the 63 mandals from 2001-02 to 2003-04 under SGRY, RRM and General Fund. He noted that Mr. Suryanarayana had sanctioned meagre funds to the mandals, whose ZPTC members and MPPs had not offered any commission. Welcoming TDP members' decision to move no-confidence motion against the Chairperson, G. Thippeswamy of the Congress said that TDP members seemed to have realised the Chairperson's `misdeeds' at last. He also levelled charges against the Chairperson that he would not sanction any work or transfer any employee without taking commission. The TDP legislator, Paritala Ravindra, came down heavily against the CEO for sanctioning renovation works without the knowledge of either the standing committee or the general body. Admitting that such sanctioning was illegal, the CEO stated that it would be taken to the notice of the Chief Engineer concerned. The Vice-Chairperson of the ZP, Ch. Obi Reddy, chaired the meeting in the absence of the Chairperson. The legislators -- M. Govinda Reddy, P. Ranganayakulu, B.C. Govindappa and S. Sailajanath -- also participated in the meeting.
