NIZAMABAD, JULY 11. The Speaker, K.R. Suresh Reddy, has said that all possible help will be extended to the disabled in the State through various schemes being implemented by the Government. The Speaker was speaking at a five-day free artificial leg and caliper camp being organised by the Marwadi yuva manch at Rajasthan bhavan here on Sunday. Though Government resources were limited, it was striving to help the disabled, Mr. Suresh Reddy said and sought the cooperation of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in improving the lot of the physically handicapped persons. He lauded the services of the manch for the benefit of the poor. The Minister for Rural Development, D. Srinivas, said the Government prepared an action plan to help the disabled. He said new schemes were being formulated to provide assistance to the disabled. He said an artificial limb manufacturing centre would be established in Nizamabad. The centre would also have the facility to manufacture tricycles, he added. He said this project would provide much-needed relief to the disabled. The centre would not only help the disabled but also provide them employment. He said the district administration, taking note of the difficulties faced by the disabled, had constructed 102 barrier free ramps in Government offices. The manch office-bearers said that over 35,000 artificial limbs and calipers were distributed free of cost among needy patients. The project chairman, Shyam Sunder Tiwari, said that 900 persons had registered their names for the camp. An 18-member team of specialists from Siliguri in West Bengal had come to help patients. The manch district president, Balkishan Loya, secretary Anil Kabra, All-India Marwadi yuva manch vice-president, Gopaldas Agarwal, State Marwadi yuva manch vice-president, Omprakash Dayma, and chairman of Mahesh Cooperative Urban Bank, Badrinarayan Rathi, also spoke.
