ANANTAPUR, JULY 11. The Minister for Agriculture, N. Raghuveera Reddy, on Saturday said the process of cloud-seeding would begin on July 18. The operation, conducted for artificial rain, would be undertaken from Hyderabad, Bangalore and Puttaparthi. At a meet-the-press programme organised by the district unit of the AP Union of Working Journalists, the Minister said two aircraft, one stationed at Hyderabad and the other at Puttaparthi during the day and at Bangalore at night, would be used for the purpose. The one at Hyderabad would cover the Telangana districts, the other the Rayalaseema area, he said. Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said the disbursement of crop insurance benefit would be undertaken soon, as the General Insurance Company had released Rs. 107.8 crores to the district. Farmers getting less than Rs. 2,500 as insurance benefit would be given the differential amount, and uninsured farmers would get a maximum of Rs. 2,500, he said. The Minister for Panchayat Raj, J. C. Diwakar Reddy, said despite the poor allocation in the Budget to the Handri Neeva project, the Government was committed to completing it. He said a Japanese institution had offered a loan at an interest rate of 2 per cent. The Minister sought to clarify the HLC parallel canal issue, saying the issue would be taken up with the Karnataka Government despite dissent from some quarters in Karnataka. Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said he would quit public life if he failed to fulfil, in the next five years, his promises to the district.
