NEW DELHI, JULY 11. One person has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly attacking the Police Control Room personnel at Nangloi in West Delhi on July 5. One of his accomplices, who had allegedly fired at the police personnel, had surrendered in the court in another case to escape police interrogation in this case. According to the police, on July 5 around 4-40 a.m., an unidentified person approached a Police Control Room van, stationed near Sukhi Nagar, Swarn Park in Nangloi, and informed Head Constable Sube Singh, the in-charge, that a group of men were committing robbery near Sukhi Nahar. The staff moved towards the spot through Assam Timber Market Road. As they reached Sukhi Nahar, they saw a group of men moving around in suspicious circumstances. Sube Singh and Constable Satish quickly overpowered two of them and began searching them when one person from the group whipped out a country-made revolver and shot at the policemen. Satish sustained a bullet injury in his right thigh. Taking advantage of the situation, all the miscreants managed to escape from the spot. The police were subsequently informed and a case was registered at Nangloi in West Delhi. Following investigations, the Anti-Robbery Section of the Crime Branch came to know that one of the suspects would be coming to Mundka in Nangloi on Saturday. Accordingly, a trap was laid and the suspect, later identified as Parveen Kumar (21), a resident of Nangloi, was apprehended around 8-30 p.m. A country-made revolver and two live cartridges were recovered from his possession. During interrogation, Parveen allegedly confessed to having been part of the group, which attacked the PCR staff, and also revealed the name of others involved in the incident. Parveen told the police that he was having dinner with his associate, Sanjay Malik, also a Nangloi resident, at a roadside eatery, around 11 p.m. on July 4. The two were joined by Sandeep Lakra, Sunny, Tinnu and another person who knew Sandeep. Together they planned to commit dacoity at Sultanpuri in North-West Delhi. However, they could not succeed and were returning home in the early hours of July 5 when they were spotted by the PCR staff. Sube and Satish caught hold of Parveen and Sunny. Realising that his associates in police custody could mean trouble for the group, Sanjay Malik pulled out the country-made revolver and fired at Satish. Later, Sanjay surrendered in the court in connection with some other case of July 8 following which he was sent to judicial custody. The police are now trying to trace the other associates of Parveen and also question Sanjay when he is released on bail. The police are yet to trace the person who had approached the PCR on July 5 morning was indeed a victim. Further investigations in the case are on.
