HYDERABAD, JULY 11. The entire pension and gratuity of a retired Assistant Director, P. Satyanarayana Murthy, who worked in office of the Commissioner of Technical Education, Hyderabad, was withdrawn by the Government as charges of corruption were proved against him. Murthy was trapped by the ACB officials on October 4, 1996, at a lodge in Kurnool when he accepted Rs. 500 bribe from a principal of Typewriting Institute to renew the recognition of the latter's institute. The Additional Special Judge for ACB Cases, Hyderabad, sentenced him to undergo one-year rigorous imprisonment and pay Rs. 1,000 fine. The Government ordered withdrawal of his pension and gratuity since he retired on March 31, 2000. In a similar case, the pension and gratuity of a retired Executive Engineer of the Panchayat Raj Department, M. Ramaswamy, was withheld by the Government following his conviction in a corruption case. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials trapped Ramaswamy on April 25, 1998, when he accepted Rs . 2,000 bribe from a contractor while working at Kothagudem in Khammam district.
