Worthy mission

Sir, — Notwithstanding the differing perceptions about big dams, the Narmada Bachao Andolan leader, Medha Patkar's campaign for the settlement and rehabilitation of those whose homes would be submerged by the raising of the Sardar Sarovar is a worthy mission. The problem, however, is fixing the exact number of displaced persons. I suggest constituting a National Commission of Rehabilitation and Resettlement with Ms. Patkar as the chairperson.

Dhirendra Sharma,
Dehra Dun

Sir, — It is disappointing to see how the desire to be called developed has made our leaders blind. Ignoring the rehabilitation of poor families is an example of skewed development.

Nidhi Singh,
