Education for all

Sir, — Jawaharlal Nehru dreamt of free education, from kindergarten to university, for every Indian child. But over the years, higher education has become out of bounds for the poor. Kindergarten education is not available for a vast majority and where available it often costs more than college education. The fund accruing from the imposition of the two per cent education cess on all taxes should be used to provide quality basic education to the neglected sections.

S.S. Rajagopalan,
Chennai
