DSP arrested

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, JULY 13. A Deputy Superintendent of Police, the main accused in the case of raping a minor girl, was produced in court today and remanded to police custody till July 16. He was arrested here on Monday.

The court remanded two more accused, who were also arrested yesterday, to police custody.

The DSP, Vikas Pathak, who faces the charge of raping the minor girl at a farmhouse along with his friends, was suspended after an FIR was filed against him by the alleged victim.

Mr. Pathak had then addressed a press conference, along with one Swati Shukla who purportedly runs an NGO, and said that his enemies were trying to "fix" him.

Within days of this press conference, the alleged victim testified before police that pressure had been mounted on her to change her version. Soon afterwards, Swati was arrested. A hunt was launched to nab the DSP after the court turned down his application for anticipatory bail.

Mr. Pathak and his friends, who were in Gwalior, were arrested at the railway station as they alighted from the Shatabdi Express yesterday afternoon.
