Sheer statistics

Sir - This is with reference to Mr. K. Sathesan's letter published in The Hindu (June 30). I fully endorse the writer's view about the Debt Recovery Tribunals conducting Lok Adalats. Further, I wish to add that the very purpose of these tribunals is not served due to absence of a full time Presiding Officer at Coimbatore DRT and cases are not disposed of even after many years whereas the main aim of DRT is to dispose cases of within six months.

Crores and crores of public money are locked as NPA (Non-Performing Assets) and banks/financial institutions are unable to recover the same even after setting up DRTs. DRTs are slowly transforming themselves as normal courts by adjourning/postponing the cases. Every day many cases are taken up only for adjourning the same. Unless something concrete is done these bodies are meant for sheer statistics.

Recycle water

Sir - This refers to the article published on household wastewater ( The Hindu , July 2). In this connection, I wish to state that wastewater from kitchen and toilet can be recycled after treatment for gardening and flushing toilets etc. Treatment plants for such purpose are already installed at a few private hospitals in Coimbatore. Treated wastewater utilised for gardening percolates to the soil and helps in recharging groundwater.

Take action

Sir - Despite instructions by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation , a section of crew of city buses (especially Route No. 95) is ignoring the requests of passengers to stop at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar despite stop boards provided on either side of the road. It had been brought to the notice of general manager of the Corporation, with clear evidence. In spite of his intention to set right matters, the refusal to stop continues. We request the authorities to look into the matter.

Rajiv Gandhi Nagar Welfare Association,

Coimbatore.
