CHITRADURGA, JULY 13. In a unique gesture, two Rotary Clubs in Chitradurga town have come forward to desilt Thimmannanayak tank, a major source of drinking water to Chitradurga. This was announced at the installation ceremony of the office-bearers of the Rotary Club of Chitradurga and the Rotary Club of Chitradurga Fort and those of the Inner Wheel Clubs, here on Monday. Announcing the project after assuming charge as the president of the Rotary Club of Chitradurga Fort, M.K. Ravindra said the cooperation of the Chitradurga Town Municipal Council and other authorities would be sought for the successful completion of the project. To mark the centenary of the Rotary International, a minimum of 100 development programmes would be taken up, including desilting work, blood donation camps, free health and eye check-up camps, and others, he added. A.K. Manjunath, who assumed charge as president of the Rotary Club of Chitradurga, sought the cooperation of all members to implement the envisaged projects. Shyamala Shivaprakash, president of the Inner Wheel Club, listed 13 projects to be implemented this year. Adoption of Janukonda, a village in Chitradurga taluk, meeting the educational expenses of one poor student for a year, establishing tailoring centres for rural women in collaboration with self-help groups, creating awareness among people about polio and AIDS, and organising health camps would be given prominence, she said. The following persons have been elected as office-bearers: Rotary club of Chitrdurga Mr. Manjunath (president) and Mr. Prahlad (secretary). Inner Wheel Club of Chitradurga Ms. Shyamala Shivaprakash (president) and Jyothi Lakshman (secretary). Rotary Club of Chitradurga Fort: Mr. Ravindra (president) and Y. Shankaranath Shetty (secretary).
