State basketball championships from tomorrow

TIRUCHI, JULY 13. The Tiruchi District Basketball Association in association with the BHEL Community Centre and the BHEL Ladies Club will conduct the Tamil Nadu State mini (below 13) and the senior basketball championships for both men and women at the BHEL Community Centre basketball courts here from June 15-21.

According to the secretary of the TDBA, D. Kalaichelvan, over 130 teams from all over the State will participate. Top teams including Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Customs, TNEB, ICF, Port Trust, Southern Railway, State Bank of India and A. N. Dyaneswaran Basketball Academy, Tiruchi will participate in the senior events.

Mr. Kalaichelvan said the State men and women's teams to take part in the ensuing national championship would be selected during this championship.

The Chairman and the Chief Patron of the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association, A. N. Dyaneswaran will present a cheque of Rs. 10,000 to each player who represented the State team which won the national championship in 2002, during the valediction.— Our Special Correspondent
