NEW DELHI, JULY 13. The North West Car Dealers Association of Delhi representing the owners of sale-purchase of second hand cars, finance companies, accessory shops, motor vehicle workshops and repair shops have called a "Delhi bandh'' to protest against the "arbitrary'' orders of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to seal all such shops and business establishments. They have warned of further intensification of the agitation if no solution was found to their problems. According to the president of the association, J.S. Nayol, total chaos has been created by the orders of the MCD and urged the Delhi Government to intervene in the matter and file a review petition in the High Court to find an amicable solution to the new situation. The mechanics and workshops are already on an indefinite strike against the decision to seal their establishments in Rohini, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh and other such localities. Mr. Nayol said the order would lead to large-scale unemployment, as lakhs of people connected with this trade will stand displaced by the orders to seal all such establishments. The association general secretary, D. S. Gill said that already a large number of premises have been sealed. He said under the leadership of Mr.Nayol, a large number of corner meetings have been organised to mobilise all the trade associations and business chambers to join hands with the association to make the agitation successful. He said before going ahead with such a drastic step, care should be taken to keep in mind the plight of those who are associated with the trade and the kind of adverse impact it would have on the unemployed people and their families. He said protests; demonstrations and huger strikes would be carried out tomorrow to make the bandh successful. Mr. Gill warned that basic services like getting a puncture or small faults repaired, various works of cars and availability of second hand cars would stand affected if the order is implemented in toto. The spare parts, accessories and after sales services for vehicles would get very expensive as all such establishments would shut down in Delhi if the MCD seal orders are implemented. Mr. Nayol said they would soon try and meet the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, and urge her to file a review petition in the High Court to mitigate the sufferings of thousands of people.
