ADILABAD, JULY 13. A multipurpose checkdam across the river Godavari in Basar in Mudhole mandal of Adilabad district is expected to come up soon. The checkdam, estimated to cost Rs. 9.7 crores, would provide drinking water to the temple town and supplement the Basar Lift Irrigation scheme. It is also expected to be environmentally beneficial, promote tourism by facilitating boating ventures, improve ground and sub-surface water levels, and support fishermen. The Lift Irrigation scheme would irrigate 3,200 acres of land. Proposals for the checkdam had been called in July 2003 by the then Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, who had visited Basar during the Godavari Pushkarams. The proposals are being sent to Secretary (Projects) for clearance.
