New notification on TMC, TP posts quota

BANGALORE, JULY 13. The State Government has issued a fresh notification on the reservation of the posts of president and vice-president of town municipal councils (TMCs) and town panchayats (TPs).

The notification has been issued after examining the requests made by the newly elected MLAs.

The Urban Development Department has allotted the posts to various categories for the fourth term in respect of the TMCs under Rule 13 and 13-A of the Karnataka Municipalities (President and Vice-President) Election (Amendment) Rules, 2001.

In the case of the 62 TMCs, the post of president has been reserved for general category candidates in 19 TMCs, general category (women) in 11, Scheduled Castes in six, Scheduled Castes (women) in four, Backward Class A (BCA) in 12, BCA (women) in seven, Scheduled Tribes in two and Scheduled Tribes (women) in one TMC.

The post of vice-president has been reserved for general category candidates in 20 TMCs, general category (women) in 12, Scheduled Castes in six, Scheduled Castes (women) in two, BCB (women) in two, BCA in 13, BCA (women) in five and Scheduled Tribes in two TMCs.

The Urban Development Department has also announced reservation for the posts of president and vice-president in the town panchayats.

In the 84 TPs, the post of president has been reserved for general category candidates in 27 TPs, general category (women) in 14, Scheduled Castes in eight, Scheduled Castes (women) in four, Backward Class B (BCB) in three, BCB (women) in two, BCA in 14, BCA (women) in eight and Scheduled Tribes in four TPs.

General category candidates will occupy the post of vice-president in 27 TPs, general category (women) in 14, Scheduled Castes in seven, BCB in one, BCB (women) in two, BCA in 16, BCA (women) in eight, Scheduled Castes (women) in five and Scheduled Tribes in four TPs.
