Farmers stage demonstration

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI, JULY 13. Members of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, affiliated to the Communist Party of India, staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here today.

They urged the Centre to pressurise the Karnataka Government to release Tamil Nadu's quota of the Cauvery water and convene a meeting of the Cauvery River Authority.

They also pressed for early award of the final verdict by the Cauvery Tribunal.

They urged the State Government to sanction adequate relief to the drought-affected farmers, besides extending financial assistance and foodgrains to agricultural labourers.

The Government should declare Tiruchi as a delta district and provide farm power connections on a priority basis. Credit should be extended liberally.

The State secretary of the association, V.Durai Manickam, the district president, T.Indrajit, the district secretary, Siva Suriyan, participated.
