BANGALORE, JULY 13. Bangalore Bio 2004, the fourth edition of the State's annual biotechnology trade show, concluded here on Tuesday. M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda, Secretary for Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science and Technology, told presspersons that about 15,000 business visitors and 35,000 others visited the pavilion at the Palace Grounds over the three days of the trade show. International participants had promised to return in greater numbers to next year's event, Mr. Gowda said. This year, there was either government or private sector participation from Germany, Denmark, France, U.K., Canada, U.S., Cuba, Nigeria and Thailand. This included 104 firms. Other nations interested in next year's trade show included Finland, Romania, Spain, France, Italy, Czech Republic, and Australia, he added. There was participation from States such as Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana. Jawaid Akhtar, Director in the Department of IT and Biotechnology, said that about 5,000 students participated in `Bio Career,' a counselling programme on job opportunities.About 200 students participated in a programme on biotech entrepreneurship, Mr. Akhtar said. The next edition of the trade show would be held in April 2005, he added.
