Three charged with chain snatching

HASSAN, JULY 14. A special team, led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, H.M. Umesh, has arrested three people in connection with the chain snatching incidents that were on the rise in the city. The team recovered gold chains worth Rs. 1.5 lakh and three two-wheelers that were used to commit the crimes.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Panduranga H. Rane, the Superintendent of Police, said that the arrested were Guruva, alias Guru Jogi (25), Venkatesha (30), and Krishna, alias Krishna Jogi, from Lakshmipura village in Mandya district. He said that one of their accomplices, Yellayya, managed to escape. Mr. Rane said that the three were arrested near Housing Board Colony on Tuesday.

He said the accused had snatched chains weighing 250 gm in 13 incidents and that he had referred the names of officers, who apprehended the chain snatchers, for an award.
