Cost Inflation Index fixed at 480

NEW DELHI, JULY 14. With prices of essential items going up, the Government today fixed the `Cost Inflation Index' at 480 for 2004-05, which is 3.67 per cent higher than 463 in 2003-04. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has issued a notification specifying the Cost Inflation Index for this fiscal. The index was 100 in 1981-82, 199 in 1991-92 and 305 in 1996-97 and 406 in 2000-01, an official release said.

Inflation was at 6.09 per cent during the week ended June 26, while Wholesale Price Index stood at 184.7 points. — PTI
