ANANTAPUR, JULY 14. The process of finalising tenders for transportation of essential commodities on 16 routes from four stock points led to a minor clash between supporters of the ruling Congress and the TDP who filed their bids today. An altercation took place between Laxminarayana of Kambadur, a follower of the TDP, when Congress followers from Hindupur area allegedly told him to leave the contract to them this year. Both groups resorted to stone throwing in which Venkatanarayana of Uravakonda and Bhaskar of Kutimaddi, both TDP followers, suffered minor injuries. The police resorted to mild lathicharge. Officials, however, cancelled finalisation of tenders due to quoting of highly excessive rates and the group clash.
