Nellore
By Our Staff Reporter
NELLORE, JULY 14. The former Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, S. Chandramohan Reddy, has lashed out at the Congress Government for "backing out on the promises" it made during elections after assuming office. Addressing a meeting of party functionaries, including ZPTC and MPTC members, at the district party office here on Wednesday, he referred to the continuing suicides by farmers and alleged that though 26 farmers had committed suicide in Nellore district so far, the administration handed over compensation only to the dependants of three farmers. "The rest of the incidents have been termed bogus to avoid payment of compensation,'' he alleged and demanded a fair deal to the farming community. Mr. Chandramohan Reddy charged that the Congress, which had earlier accused the Telugu Desam of stifling the existence of local bodies, was doing no better. He said that authorities in the Zilla Parishad were openly saying that works had been bagged by Congress legislators. It was alleged that works relating to housing and other sectors had been stalled at the behest of the Government. Mr. Reddy suggested to party functionaries to assert themselves and lodge their protest against any bias by officials.
