Students protest against lack of amenities

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI, JULY 14. Under the banner of the Students Federation of India (SFI), schoolchildren today boycotted classes and took out a rally, protesting against what they called lack of even basic amenities in Government schools in Tirupati.

The students also held demonstration in front of the RDO's office for two hours and presented a memorandum to the officer listing the deficiencies the SFI had noticed in a survey it conducted in as many as 14 high schools in Tirupati.

SFI activists alleged that most classrooms in schools lacked even blackboards, desks and even teachers. Though schools had been implementing the mid-day meal scheme, none of them had a dining room while many lacked even toilets.

They regretted that though it was more than a month since schools were reopened, the Government was yet to distribute textbooks.

They pointed out that these deficiencies were the reason for the poor results in the SSC examination in Government schools last year.
