THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 14. The Minister for Water Resources, T. M. Jacob, today said his department had drawn up a Rs.17.55-crore project to build boundary walls around the 3.54 sq. km Shastamkottah Lake in order to keep it unpolluted. Replying to a call attention notice by Kovoor Kunhumon, MLA, in the State Assembly, he said silting and pollution from various sources were a serious problem in this fresh water lake, which provided drinking water to many villages and towns in Kollam district. A committee headed by the Kollam District Collector had recommended measures such as planting trees to check silting and building walls around the lake.
