Tirunelveli
By P. Sudhakar
TIRUNELVELI, JULY 14. Students, office-goers and the travelling public here experienced agony, when they were caught in the worst-ever traffic snarl caused by the a diversion effected today owing to the ongoing construction of the foot over bridge near the Mary Sargent Girls' Higher Secondary School. Though the public admitted that they had to bear it until the construction of the iron structure was completed, they could not digest the fact that they had to undergo this ordeal till July 18. Autorickshaws, vans, buses and lorries were caught in the long queue that started from the Kulavanigarpuram railway gate and a point beyond Samathaanapuram roundtana this morning. When the gate was closed for the Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur passenger train, the situation became bad to worse. The police had a tough time as the traffic between the south by-pass road-Ambasamudhram road junction and St. Xavier's College came to a grinding halt. Though representations were made to the police to permit the movement of vehicles through Oosigopuram and Murugankurichi at least for two hours in the morning and evening, the law enforcers are not ready.
