Siddha students give up dharna

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI, JULY 14. Students of Government Siddha College here today gave up their two-day dharna after holding talks with the Collector, Atul Anand, at his bungalow.

However, they decided to boycott classes and sit under trees and the portico of the main building during class hours until Thalavai Sundaram, Minister for Health, and Farooqui, Special Commissioner for the Department of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy, hold talks with them.

After the Revenue Divisional Officer, Karu. Kasinathan's negotiations with the students failed on Tuesday night, the students met the Collector and explained their demands this morning.

The Collector asked the RDO to inspect the quarters of house surgeons after the agitating students complained that it was in a bad shape and needed immediate attention.

When the AIADMK city district secretary, Sudha K. Paramasivan, met the students at noon, the Minister for Industries, Nainar Nagendran, spoke to the students over the former's mobile phone and assured them that all their genuine demands would be met.

He is reported to have told the students that he would visit the college on July 17 along with Mr. Thalavai Sundaram and Mr. Farooqui to find an amicable solution to their problems.
