BANGALORE, JULY 14. The Karnataka High Court today reserved orders on an appeal by the Kangeyam All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MLA, Selvi Murugesan, and two others, challenging a June 26 trial court order asking them to undergo a narco-analysis test. Mrs. Selvi Murugesan, her husband, T.A. Murugesan, and the Erode district party general secretary, S. Govindarajan, said the lower court exceeded its jurisdiction, permitting the Bangalore police to conduct the narco-analysis test on them. Mrs. Selvi Murugesan, Murugesan, Govindarajan, Kumar, Dhadiya and Bengal were arrested by the Koramangala police under Sections 302, 365 and 120-B of the IPC. The police had found a body in the Attibele limits here, and it was identified as that of Sivakumar, son-in-law of the Murugesans. (Sivakumar had married their daughter, Kavita.) Sivakumar and Ms. Kavita were living in Bangalore as her parents had disapproved of the marriage. Ms. Kavita lodged a complaint with the Koramangala police, accusing her parents of having kidnapped her husband. Mrs. Selvi Murugesan and the others were arrested on charges of murdering Sivakumar. When the accused were produced before the sessions court, they were ordered to undergo brain-mapping and serum tests. They said the test reports did not incriminate them in the offences. They said they were shocked when the police filed another application seeking permission to conduct the narco-analysis test.
