CHENNAI, JULY 14. The Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the State Government to provide infrastructure in the Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari medical colleges, whose recognition has been kept in abeyance by the Medical Council of India. In a statement, R. Nallakannu, State secretary, said it was surprising that the MCI, which had given recognition to private colleges in the State despite their poor infrastructure, had withdrawn recognition for the government colleges. He appealed to the Centre to save the future of 250 students studying in the three government colleges.
Condemns action against weavers
Mr. Nallakannu has condemned the police action on cooperative society weavers at Kancheepuram recently. The weavers staged a demonstration demanding action against bogus silk societies in the town. The police instead of taking action against the bogus societies attacked the weavers. He also demanded an inquiry into the attack.
