`Make sanitation programme a success'

TIRUVARUR JULY 14. The Tiruvarur Collector, P. Ekambaram, today called upon the people in villages to make the complete sanitation programme a success by adhering to strict hygienic practices.

He was speaking at a mass contact programme at Govindakudi in Valangaiman taluk. He said 1,60,000 litres of protected drinking water were being supplied through three overhead tanks at Govindakudi and in the surrounding villages.

Depending upon further demand another tank would be constructed.

The Collector said there were 39 Primary Health Centres in the district. Steps would be taken to establish a Primary Health Centre at Govindakudi.

He appealed to the villagers to construct individual toilets in their houses and said Rs.500 was being given as subsidy for constructing an individual toilet. The participant had to contribute Rs. 125.

The Collector distributed benefits to 67 persons in the camp.

He received 208 petitions, several of which were disposed on the spot by officials. Annadurai, Revenue Divisional Officer of Tiruvarur and R. Mahalingam, Public Relations Officer, participated in the camp.

Earlier the Collector inaugurated the new premises of Indian Bank at Needamangalam. He also inaugurated the computerised services there. R. Padmanabhan, senior manager, Indian Bank, Kumbakonam; Sivasailam, Assistant General Manager of the bank, and Kothandaraman, General Manager, State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam division, participated in the function.
