Six killed in two accidents

CHITRADURGA, JULY 14. Six persons — two in Chitradurga district and four in Hassan district — were killed in accidents on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Two persons were killed on the spot and two injured in a collision between two trucks on NH4 on the outskirts of Chitradurga on Wednesday evening.

The dead were identified as truck driver Razak (40) of Vanambadi near Hosur in Tamil Nadu, and a cleaner of one of the vehicles, Sajid Rustum (38) of Faridabad in Haryana. While one truck was transporting coconuts from Vellukutti in Tamil Nadu to Shollapur, the other was carrying potatoes from Haryana to Bangalore.

Four persons were killed and six injured when a lorry transporting ragi hit the parapet wall of a bridge on Dudda-Tiptur Road near Timmenahalli Gate on Tuesday night. Three persons died on the spot and one died while he was being taken to hospital, according to the Superintendent of Police, Panduranga H. Rane. Mr. Rane said that three of the dead were from Attavara Hosahalli and one was from Bommenahalli of Hassan taluk. Their names were given as Dinesh (28), R. Chikke Gowda (60), A. Chikke Gowda (40) and Kumar (30). He said that the some persons were travelling in the lorry as it was "shandy day." The driver lost control over the vehicle on the bridge and it hit the parapet wall. The victims got caught under the ragi bags. The injured have been admitted to Sri Chamarajendra Hospital, Hassan.
