Praveen stuns Sastry

SHIMOGA July 14. P. Praveen Prasad of Andhra Pradesh stunned the top seed Arvind Sastry playing the Caro Cann Defence in the seventh round of the all-India invitational Fide-rated chess tournament on Wednesday.

N. Sanjay defeated Beno Glad S to go into a joint lead with National Champion (under-25) Thej Kumar). M.S. Thej kumar defeated Y.G. Vijayendra playing the Caro Cann Defence in the sixth round.

In the sixth round top seeded Arvind Sastry suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the seeded N. Sanjay. Playing the Grunfeld defence Sanjay played well at the end of the game by manoeuvring his knight to victory.

Main results (fifth round): Y.G. Vijayendra (5.5) lost to Thej kumar (6) N. Sajnay bt Beno Glad S (4.5) P. Praveen Prasad (5.5) bt Aravind Sastry (4.5) Vinoth Kumar (4.5) drew against Rahul M. Ved (4.5) Sagar Shah (4) lost to Sriram Sarja (5). — Our Special Correspondent
