MANAMA, JULY 14. Bahrain has arrested seven persons on suspicion that they were planning bombings in the kingdom, which is home to a key U.S. naval base. Those detained include the six persons who were arrested last month but released without charge. The Interior Ministry in Bahrain, in a statement, said the men had been rearrested after information in confiscated computers showed the seven had "completed their plan and prepared to carry out terrorist operations." Their alleged targets were government, economic and tourist facilities. The arrests have been made after the U.S. began evacuating the families of some of its personnel posted at a naval facility here. The headquarters of the U.S. fifth fleet is based in Bahrain. The U.S. State Department had earlier warned of the possibility of an extremist strike in the kingdom. Bahrain is connected to Saudi Arabia by a causeway, and Al Khobar, where the Al-Qaeda militants had launched a major attack recently, can be reached by road in less than an hour. The six detained last month were identified as Bassam al-Ali, Bassam Bukhowa, Yasser, Omar Kamal, Mohedin and Ali Khan.
