UDUPI, JULY 14. D.K. Suresh Kumar, president of the Karnataka State Council for the Disabled, has said that work is progressing on a "disabled persons' Bhavan" in Bangalore. He told presspersons here recently that the bhavan would have 50 well-furnished rooms, and would be the first of its kind in Asia. The bhavan would provide lodging for the disabled coming from the district headquarters, he said. The bhavan would prove to be of a great help to the disabled as they could use the facilities there, he said and added that the council would launch its website soon. Mr. Kumar announced that the council would intensify efforts to get more facilities for the disabled from the Union and State governments. The Union and the State governments would be pressured to evolve more schemes for the welfare of the disabled. The council planned to start its branches in all district headquarters by 2005, Mr. Kumar said. V. Ravindra, vice-president of the council, and Vimala R. Rai, joint secretary, were present on the occasion.
