HYDERABAD, JULY 14. With the monsoon and its regular deposit of stagnated water looming large over the city, the administration has issued orders to medical and health officials to keep adequate stock of medicines in hospitals, particularly to cater to the need of dengue patients. An epidemic cell, consisting of a doctor and paramedical staff, will shortly be set up in all hospitals in order to provide necessary information and guidance to patients. At a review meeting here Wednesday, the district Collector, M. Veerabhadraiah, directed the Medical and Health Department to chalk out an action plan to educate people, particularly slum dwellers on the precautions to be adopted against seasonal diseases. Referring to deaths caused by dengue, which occurred during transit from one hospital to another, the Collector said patients should be shifted only after ensuring that their condition was stable. The Director, Medical and Health, Masthan Rao, said that six dengue cases were registered in the twin cities in the last six months. A team, comprising doctors and officials of the Malaria Control and Water Works Departments, was visiting houses to educate people on dengue. The Director, Medical Education, R. Shashi Prabha, the Director, Institute of Preventive Medicine, Sucharitha, the DM&HO, Hyderabad, B. Satyavathy, and other officials were present.
