Rain to continue

Forecast: Intermittent rain or thundershowers.

At Waltair, the maximum temperature was 27 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 23.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 95 per cent and at 5.30 p.m was 96 per cent. Rainfall at 8.30 a.m. was 48.4 mm and at 8.30 p.m. 15.1 mm.

At Airport, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 28.8 degrees Celsius and 25.2 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 89 per cent and at 5.30 p.m was 92 per cent. Rainfall at 8.30 a.m. was 17.6 mm and at 8.30 p.m. was 11.8 mm.

The maximum and minimum temperatures at Dolphin's Nose were 26.2 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 96 per cent. Rainfall at 8.30 a.m. was 47.4 mm.

PDSO's demand

The Progressive Democratic Students' Organisation (PDSO) has demanded immediate withdrawal of the G.O. Nos. 183, 184 and 185, which were issued in `violation of the Supreme Court ruling' on counselling for admission to medical colleges. The Supreme Court, while ruling that the managements of private colleges were free to fill 25 per cent of seats in their colleges, said they should do so only on the basis of the marks obtained in EAMCET or conduct their own qualifying test.

Reservation for Muslims hailed

Muslim welfare organisations in the city welcomed the five per cent reservations provided by the State Government to the community.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Professor of Hindi in Andhra University, Md. Iqbal, felt that the Muslim minority should come forward to utilise the opportunity without fail.

Retired Additional Superintendent of Police and president of Visakha Muslim Youth Association, F.R. Khan, lauded the Congress Government in the State for issuing the G.O.

Rape case registered

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by three youths in the city. According to police, the girl, whose parents are labourers residing in Venkateswarametta area, left home last Friday after a row with her mother. She met two youths who are known to her and stayed with them and their roommate till Tuesday. On Wednesday, on a complaint from the mother that her daughter was gangraped, police registered a case and are investigating.
