Clouds, rain predicted

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JULY 14.JULY 14.JULY The Capital will wake up to a cloudy sky on Thursday morning, the weatherman said today. There is also a possibility of rain or thundershowers in some areas during the day.

The maximum and minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung on Wednesday was 39 and 28.5 degrees Celsius, while Palam recorded a maximum of 38.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28.7 degrees Celsius.

At Safdarjung, the maximum and minimum humidity recorded was 76 per cent and 42 per cent respectively. Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 72 per cent, while the minimum was 35 per cent.

Found murdered

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JULY 14.JULY 14.JULY The 62-year-old relative of a former Municipal Councillor was found strangled under mysterious circumstances at her Bakhtawarpur village residence in North-West Delhi this morning. It is learnt that at least one case of burglary was also reported from the area.

The incident came to light around 6-45 a.m. when the former Councillor, Seema Devi, and her husband returned home from an outing and found Jagan Ram dead. The room in which he used to sleep had been ransacked.

Jagan, who was Seema Devi's relative, used to live in an adjacent house. As he lived alone, he often used to sleep in her house. According to the police, Seema Devi and her husband went out on Tuesday night when Jagan was in their house. They returned to find out that he had been murdered. Jagan had retired from the post of "beldar" in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Robberies

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JULY 14.JULY 14.JULY Two cases of robbery were reported from different parts of North-East Delhi on Tuesday.

In the first case, four armed men forced their way into the office a company named Sidbali Sariya and robbed its employees of Rs. 4.5 lakhs, four mobile phones and watches at Dilshad Garden around 9 p.m. The police said at the time of the incident, five people - Amit, Ankur, Puneet, Mayur and Jaipal -- were in the office.

Around 11 p.m., Vineet Sharma was coming from Ghaziabad in his Indica car when some miscreants on two motorcycles intercepted him and forced him to stop at Gokalpuri. Claiming that they were from a finance company, at gunpoint they pulled him out of the car and took it away saying he had not paid the instalment.

`Take action against Inspector'

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JULY 14.JULY 14.JULY A Delhi court has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North-West Delhi, Sanjay Singh, to take action against Inspector Rajinder Singh of the Rohini District Investigation Unit for letting off two accused persons in a case of stealing of savings certificates (Kisan Vikas and Indira Vikas Patras) and jewellery worth Rs. 10 lakhs from an elderly person last year.

The Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Preeti Aggarwal, also issued a notice against the Inspector under the Delhi Police Act through the DCP asking him to explain his conduct regarding his non-appearance before the court to explain the material annexed with the chargesheet against the two accused persons.

Rejecting the suggestion by the Inspector that no case was made against the accused persons, Rajiv Vaid and his wife, Anuradha Vaid, son and daughter-in-law of the complainant in the case, 80-year-old H.P. Vaid, the MM took cognisance of the case against the accused and summoned them.
