Temperature

TIRUCHI, JULY 14. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 33.2 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.5 degree Celsius.

Held with

fake passport

Ravi (32) was arrested by the police on the charge of possession of a fake passport in the name of Xavier.

The youth belonging to Subramaniapuram near Aranthangi in Pudukottai had allegedly furnished a bogus address at Colachel in Kanyakumari district. He was said to have obtained a second passport through a travel agent. He was arrested here upon his return from Gulf today.

In another case, Jarina Begam of Anniyur in Kudavasal taluk in Tiruvarur district was arrested upon her return from Bahrain after it was found that she had obtained a passport in the bogus name of Abu Roja. She had been working as a housemaid in Bahrain.

Track work

The train No. 805 Vriddhachalam-Tiruchi passenger will be terminated at Srirangam Railway Station on Thursday and Friday owing to the track maintenance work undertaken at the Tiruchi Town Station on these days, according to a release issued by the Public Relations Officer, Tiruchi Division of the Southern Railway, C. K. Sivaraj.

Students' store

A students' store was declared open on the Bharathidasan University campus by the Vice-Chancellor, C.Thangamuthu, today.

The store would fulfil a long-felt need of students, especially hostel inmates on the campus. It would function as a no-profit venture with the seed money being provided by the university, Dr.Thangamuthu said.

He said a Students Amenity Centre would soon be established with facilities such as photocopying and telephone. The Students Store would be shifted to the Amenities Centre after its construction, he said.

Entrance test

The entrance test for admission to M.Sc courses in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Eco-Biotechnology and Life Sciences, offered by the School of Life Sciences of the Bharathidasan University would be held at the Jamal Mohammed College in Tiruchi on July 18, according to a release from the Registrar (in-charge), V.Ayodhi. Individual intimations on the schedule of the tests have also been sent to the applicants, he added.

Mettur level

The level at the Mettur dam stood at 69.18 feet today. The inflow was 11,342 cusecs and there was no discharge.
