Health exhibition

TIRUCHI, JULY 14. The Tiruchi Obstetric and Gynaecological Society and the Tiruchi chapter of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics will host a unique health exhibition for teenagers — Teenex 2004 — in the City from July 16 to 18.

The exhibition was being organised with the objective of increasing awareness, among teenagers, of health issues such as anaemia, depression and other adolescent problems, the organising presidents of the exhibition, Rameswari Nallusami and Prabhu Ilango, told mediapersons here yesterday.

The exhibition was being organised to focus on adolescent health issues, as teenagers form one-fourth of the country's population, they said.

Specialists from various disciplines including ear-nose-throat, dermatology, cosmetology, nutrition, psychology and gynaecology would also provide free medical advice and psychiatric counselling to the participants. Counselling would also be provided on obesity, stress related problems and other relevant issues during the exhibition. Free dental check-up and blood tests at subsidised costs would also be conducted.

Students in Standards IX to XII from 34 schools in and around the City have been invited to participate in the exhibition, which would also be open to the public at a nominal entry fee.

Interactive sessions, elocution, quiz, poster and variety entertainment competitions would also be organised to stimulate interest on teenage health issues. The exhibition, to be held at the Senthil Arun Kalyana Mandapam on the Annamalai Nagar Main Road in the City, would be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on all three days.

Outstanding teenagers, to be identified based on the recommendations of school principals and judged by a panel of experts, would also be honoured at the valediction of the exhibition.
