Protest against halt at all stations

By Our Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM, JULY 14. Commuters staged a rail roko here today to protest against the Southern Railways' decision to halt the Kancheepuram— Beach electric multiple unit service at all stations between Tambaram and Beach Station.

Consequent to the demonstration, the train left the Kancheepuram East station at 8-35 a.m., nearly 100 minutes late.

The demonstrators said the sudden announcement that all EMUs, including the Kancheepuram-Beach Station service, would halt at all stations between Tambaram and Beach Station from today would mean reaching their work place late.

Already, the train, which leaves 7-15 a.m. at Kancheepuram reached Beach 15 minutes behind schedule on almost all days for various reasons.

With the new halt service, the train would reach there only by 11 a.m, the protesters said.
