6 held: several burglary cases solved

KOCHI, JULY 14. Six persons hailing from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Palarivattom police from two uninhabited houses near the Ernakulam Medical Trust on Tuesday night.

On interrogation, they have admitted to having been involved in 16 cases of burglary, including Rs.1,20,000 from the Reliance showroom at Palarivattom, 65 sovereigns gold from a house at Paravoor, 32 sovereigns and Rs.55,000 from a house at Chembumukku, and 25 sovereigns from a residential flat in Palarivattom. Other crimes were committed in the police station limits of Aluva, Palluruthy, Thrikakkara, Thripunithura and Kalamassery, the police said.

These persons were involved in daytime housebreaking and moved around as scrap metal or spare parts vendors.Twenty more families from the same village were camping at Companypadi, Aluva.

Air passenger held

A passenger was taken into custody by the Air Intelligence wing of the Customs at the Cochin International Airport while he was trying to travel with Rs.17 lakhs hidden in his baggage.

Sudarshana Kumar, 27, a resident of Chavakkad, who came to board the Indian Airlines' Sharjah flight, IC 975, was the one detained.
