Show-cause notice issued to Excise CI

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 15 . The Commissioner Secretary (Excise), Dinesh Sharma, has issued a show-cause notice to the Circle Inspector (Excise), Varghese Isaac, against whom major penalty, including dismissal from service, has been recommended after he was accused of committing serious misconduct by openly associating with suspects in abkari crimes. It is learned that the Excise Minister, K. V. Thomas, has called for the file recommending action against Mr. Isaac. Mr. Isaac was arrested on May 29, 2003, along with one "China" Sunil and Babuji by the police team probing the seizure of nearly 20,000 litres of spirit from a house in Pappanamcode. He was accused of wrongfully detaining the Assistant Commissioner, Manilal, and his police team. A case was registered against Mr. Isaac under sections 341, 353 and 34 of Indian Penal Code.The Excise department had issued Mr. Isaac a memo of charges and statement of allegations accusing him of "openly ganging" up with the accused persons.
