PONDICHERRY, JULY 15. The Fee Committee headed by retired judge of the Madras High Court, Justice P. Shanmugham, has issued orders fixing the fees to be collected from students by unaided professional colleges in the Union Territory during the academic year 2004-2005. The Secretary to Education, B.V. Selvaraj, said in a release today that as far as engineering courses are concerned the fee structure would be Rs 25,000 for B.Tech in Bharathiyar College of Engineering and Technology at Karaikal and in Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering and Technology at Krimambakkam in Pondicherry. The fee for MCA course in these two colleges is Rs 20,000. The Sri Manakula Vinayakar College of Engineering at Madagadipet would collect fee of Rs 28,000 for B.Tech course and Rs 25,000 for MCA course. The Regency Institute of Technology at Yanam would levy levy Rs 33,000 for B.Tech course. There is no MCA course in this college. The fee for the MCA course in Pope John Paul II College of Education is Rs 25,000. The release said that for B.Ed course the following is the fee (mentioned in brackets) finalised for the colleges mentioned hereunder: Pope John Paul II College of Education Reddiarpalayam Pondicherry (Rs 40,000), Immaculate College of Education for Women Pakkamudaiyanpet Pondicherry (Rs 33,000), Acharya College of Education Villianoor (Rs 33,000) and Sri Narayana College of Education at Mahe (Rs 20,000). For M.Ed course and Integrated B.Ed course available in Pope John Paul II college of Education only the fee is Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. As far as Diploma in Teachers Education (D.T.Ed) course, the collegewise fee structure is: Immaculate Teacher Training Institute Karaikal (Rs 25,000) Sri Sai Ram Teacher Training Institute Pondicherry (Rs 23,000), Acharya Teacher Training Institute Villianoor (Rs 25,000) and Dr Anbu Paul Teacher Training Institute Thutipet Pondicherry (Rs 23,000). The Secretary said that fees fixed for the courses as fixed by the Committee included tuition fee, exam fee, library and lab fees. Any deviation or violation, if noticed, would lead to penal action including disaffiliation, derecognition and withdrawal of approval in keeping with statutory provisions. Defaulting institutions would in addition be made liable to pay a suitable penalty, which could be 10 to 15 times the amount collected from students.
