Kids take to street against vices

By Our Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA, JULY 15. Students of the Seventh-Day Adventist High School in the city took out an awareness rally on Thursday as part of the temperance movement embarked on by its branches spread across the country.

In a statement, the school principal, U. Rajan Babu, said the objective of the rally was to bring awareness among the masses about the harmful impact of vices like smoking and liquor-consumption. The children participating in the rally, raised slogans against gutkha consumption despite a ban imposed on it by the Government.

Expressing serious concern over the vices in society at large, Mr. Babu said the message to the public was to refrain from bad habits, which could affect their health. Illicit liquor, which led to untimely deaths, caused simmering discontent and frustration in financially backward households, he said.

Mr. Babu called upon people to join hands and rally against such social evils, which were assuming alarming proportions.
