Alamatti: BJP seeks Centre's intervention
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
JULY 15.
The general secretary of the BJP, K. Laxman, on Thursday demanded that the Centre intervene and see that water was released from Alamatti to help farmers in the State.
At a press conference, he said the Congress was in power at the Centre and in Karnataka and hence it should not be a problem to convince the latter to release water to Andhra Pradesh.
A memorandum had been submitted to the Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala, and the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, by the former Union Minister, Bandaru Dattatreya.
Dr. Laxman said, on Friday farmers from several districts would assemble at Dharna Chowk, opposite Indira Park, to seek the Government's attention to the pressing problem.
